Reminders
If you didn’t apply for the American Academy of
Sleep Medicine Section Investigator Award when you
submitted your abstract back in December please
consider it when you are preparing your abstract for
next year’s conference. To be eligible, applicants must
be section members, first authors of the abstract, and
out of training (residency for MDs or post-doctoral
for PhDs) for no more than five years. The award
encourages attendance at section meetings, fosters
section identity, and honors meritorious research in
the field of sleep medicine. One award is given out by
each of the eight AASM membership sections and in-
cludes a certificate and honorarium. The award will be
made during the section meeting at the annual SLEEP
meeting where the winner will also be asked to pres-
ent his/her abstract. We have had excellent abstracts
submitted to the sleep deprivation section committee
in past years and we would encourage anyone eligible
to apply in the future.
The sleep deprivation section also recommends
relevant and topical sessions for the SLEEP meet-
ing based on proposals received. This past year, we
recommended two proposed sessions to the program
committee. While there is no guarantee that session
proposals will be accepted, the recommendation does
draw the attention of the program committee and
conveys the endorsement of the section. When writ-
ing your session proposal later this year, contact the
committee regarding your proposal so that we can
consider it for recommendation.
